Character meets are a highlight of any Disney cruise, and there are more of them than on almost any Disney vacation. Most are free, some require reservations, and knowing the difference helps you plan so your kids meet their favorites without spending the whole trip in line.

Walk-up character greetings

Throughout each sailing, characters appear at scheduled times in the atrium and around the ship for standard meet-and-greets. These are free and do not require a reservation — you simply line up. Reservation-required meets

A few special experiences, most notably the Royal Gathering princess meet, require a free reservation and book up fast. If meeting princesses is a priority, plan for the reservation window well ahead of your cruise rather than relying on walk-ups.

Themed deck parties and shows

Beyond individual greetings, characters headline deck parties, stage shows, and themed events like pirate night. These are not meet-and-greets, but they are some of the best moments to see many characters at once, in costume and in action.
